In collaboration with the Municipal Forests of Bratislava, the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava and the DIVO studio, we designed the reconstruction of a former roasting house and its surroundings in the area of the former munition depots on Pekná cesta. Vaulted spaces of a semi-recessed cellar have survived from the roasting house to this day. The building is intended for the public as a pavilion for spending leisure time with barbecuing or wine tasting, and equally as facilities for people heading into the city forests for hiking or cycling.
The basis for the garden landscaping designed by Atelier DIVO is the form of the reconstructed munition depot building and the position of the existing main features such as the well. By retaining surface water, the design proposes the creation of wetlands and a pond supporting local biodiversity. The vegetation design, with its natural character, builds on the surrounding nature and the existing structures of fruit trees on the site. New plantings will consist mainly of domestic tree species in a near-natural form and old, regionally native varieties of fruit trees. Deciduous trees (alders and willows) will be planted in a group near the large marsh by the Račiansky stream. Movement through the site will be organized by logically arranged paths with respect to the elevation differences of the terrain; resting areas are placed by the central building. The area is complemented by fire pits of a near-natural character, wooden furniture and interactive elements for rest and leisure. For all proposed elements, emphasis is placed on natural materials.
